  • Directly manage all aspects of the company commercial vehicle transportation safety and maintenance program, such as the work order request and repair system, (tracking loop), commercial vehicle inspections, maintenance and repair records; including the commercial vehicle permitting system, carrier profile, and safety fitness certificate.
  • Recruit, screen, orientate and enter all new drivers into the Company Safety Management Systems such as the Commercial Driver Registry and training tracker matrix and ensure all new employees receive all of the specific training required for their position.
  • Record and track driver training expiry and renewal dates were applicable and ensure re-training and updates occur prior to expiry. Hours of Service, CV Inspections, Oilfield Hauler, Heavy Hauler etc.
  • Developed a commercial driver/vehicle record management system and a training schedule to meet Alberta Transportation requirements and successfully obtained the very challenging “Oilfield Service Vehicle - Hours of Service Exemption” permit through Alberta Transportation.
  • Collaborate with third party training providers (both institutions and individual contractors), to establish driver training program requirements to ensure driver safety and performance and to meet the requirements of Alberta Infrastructure and Transportation for a federal carrier operating in the province of Alberta. Further develop a schedule and arrange venues for the delivery of these training courses. Many of which were delivered as in house presentations.
  • Develop and maintain driver files which include the onboarding or orientation package, drivers abstract, training records and attendance, disciplinary records, performance revues and drivers daily logs.
  • Review driver daily logs / trip inspections on a regular basis to monitor KPI’s such as form and manner in completing the daily log, hours of service compliance and vehicle inspection. Assign re-training as any noted improvements are necessary.
  • Participate in audit of the driver files, including drivers daily logs and vehicle files by a 3rd party auditor appointed by AB Infrastructure and Transportation in order to maintain the oilfield service vehicle hours of service exemption permit. This permit allows drivers under certain conditions and very strict adherence to higher than normal driver training standards to operate a commercial vehicle outside of the legal driver cycles

Once repairs are complete and formerly signed off all paperwork including copies of the invoices for any parts is filed with the inspection record for that unit to legally illustrate closure.
  • Monitor the company carrier profile on a regular basis and review any noted driver or vehicle infractions. When necessary utilize the company progressive disciplinary policy in combination with a performance review with the driver to effect performance improvement.
  • Maintain vehicle information binders in each power unit which contain all legal information for the vehicle and any required annual permits.
  • Direct all facets of the safety management program including: review and update of the company safety manual on an annual basis, chair monthly company safety meetings, conduct in house COR safety audits, using ACSA as a certifying partner, developing and monitoring company safety policies and procedures, and safe work practices as well as delivering weekly safety statistics reports; and the review, sign off and distribution of hazard identifications.
