As a junior accountant, I completed a comprehensive audit involving a major corporation comprising three entities. As part of the audit, I conducted variance procedures on accounts including cash, employee future benefits, membership revenue, salaries and benefits, grants, operational expenses and shared services expenses. I performed audit testing on these accounts throughout the interim and year-end periods, including journal entry testing for each entity. After gaining general knowledge of the accounts’ transactions, I conducted an overall analytical review of all entities. I requested all necessary documentation from the client for audit procedures and testing and communicated with the client to ensure EY’s understanding of such accounts. Furthermore, I assisted my superiors (senior accountants) with complex accounts, such as investments, by creating a confirmation listing, sending investment confirmations and tracking & following up on confirmations as required collaboratively.
As a junior accountant, I conducted physical inventory counts at various locations, including a beer store, a dental clinic, warehouses and an investment corporation. The corporation keeps its investment assets at the Royal Canadian Mint. I completed a screening and credit check for them. This inventory count aimed to assess the value and completeness of their gold bars stock investment and verify the accuracy of their respective weights. Each metal bar was labelled with a serial number on a sheet, and a substantial sample of units was chosen for inspection. I needed to verify the physical presence of the identified gold bars and weigh them using a scale. Throughout the audit, I had the opportunity to learn about the entire process of creation of the bars from raw materials to finished product
As a junior accountant, I conducted audit testing during the interim audit involving fund expenses. This included requesting missing documentation from the client and performing walkthroughs related to purchases, payables, receivables, and cash disbursements. Walkthroughs are preliminary phases that help enhance our understanding of the client company's operations at EY. These phases also assist in identifying audit risks and the controls implemented by the company.
As a junior accountant, I conducted testing on the controls related to the purchase and payables processes to evaluate their reliability. I also assessed the strengths and weaknesses of each control. Furthermore, I engaged in conversations with clients to gain insights into the company’s controls and to fill in any missing information. In addition, I assisted in preparing banking confirmations to be sent at year-end.
As a junior accountant, I conducted audit testing (during the interim audit) related to rental revenue. I contacted the client to obtain any missing information and address questions relating to rental estimation policies. When performing rental testing, I considered each tenant’s status and the applicable estimation based on their circumstances under provincial wage programs, provincial disability support programs and other relevant governing metrics. The purpose of the testing procedure was to verify that tenants were not over or undercharged and to analyze the discrepancies between EY’s estimations and the client’s estimations while requesting revenue adjustment if deemed necessary.
As a junior accountant, I performed audit testing related to cash and expenses. I also conducted audit work related to client inquiries to remediate missing information and confirm the balances & statuses of related parties within the organization.

I liaised with clients to ensure adequate financial & non-financial information was provided. Additionally, I identified misallocated figures within working papers that could significantly mislead financial statement users, and as a result, I remedied the financial statements' lack of accuracy and disclosure.
As administrative assistant, I reconciled and confirmed the company’s bank statements for 18 months. I also organized confidential information for clients and workers in appropriate files. In light of the company’s relocation, I sorted, prepared and organized files & records. Finally, I conducted marketing phone calls to promote leadership and governance training courses on behalf of the company.
