Leadership and Mentoring

  • I partnered with a colleague and created a Leadership course. The objective of the leadership course was to allow students leadership opportunities in the school as well as in the community. The following events were executed, holiday festivals such as Halloween, Christmas, Indigenous Month etc. In the community, we partnered with the Coquitlam Express and had a school night.
  • Port Moody’s 50th Anniversary Celebration
  • I played a key role in managing the organization and implementation of this large event. The school hosted over 1200 ex staff and students. I worked with my principal to create a plan for the event which included food and drink, communication, and prizes. The event was very successful as it brought people from the Port Moody Secondary School together to celebrate an important learning space.
  • Health and Safety Committee
  • Over the past 3 years, I have been a part of the school’s health and safety team. As part of the team, I have met monthly with the team. Last year’s initiative was to bring to light the importance of understanding AED machines and training staff.
  • IB Extended Essay Advisor
  • I have supervised IB students (over 150 in my career) with their 4,000-word research papers. As their advisor, I work one-on-one with students building a supportive environment and helping them develop a research question, provide feedback and assess their final paper. For example, this year a student examined: To what extent is the Burnaby Mountain Gondola project economically viable?

  • Organized, coordinated and implemented the CLC Capstone formally Graduation Transitions.

  • Career Day gave students the opportunity to explore different career paths. On this day, Grade 9 students took part in the Take Your Kid to Work Program, Junior Achievement came in with volunteers to discuss the economic benefits of staying in school with Grade 10 students, and Grade 11 and 12 students took part in a series of seminars that delved into what to look for when choosing a career.
