Kingston Health Sciences Centre – Medical Oncology Clinic

July-August 2023 (3 weeks)

  • Observed under supervising physicians: Dr. Shivani Dadwal (GI), Dr. Bishal Gyawali (GI), Dr. Mates (Lung, Melanoma, Breast), Dr. Tara Baetz (Skin/Lymphoma)
  • Experiences included observing physical examinations on patients, learning about cancer treatment strategies and current clinical trials, learning about interpreting blood tests and indications of certain biomarker, understanding patient’s needs, strategies to improve quality of life, palliative care treatment plans as well as diagnosis of specific pathologies, their respective treatment and prognosis.


Campbellford Memorial Hospital – Emergency Department, Outpatient Day Surgery, Inpatient Unit

July-August 2023 (2 weeks)

  • Observed under supervising physicians: Dr. David Li (ER Department), Dr. Syed Najfi (Outpatient Day Surgery), Dr. Shiyam Loganathan (Inpatient Unit)
  • Experiences included observing Dr. Li in the triage, learning about the functioning of the ER department and various pathologies and their diagnosis, immediate emergency procedures such as laceration repair with sutures and intubation.
  • Experiences with Dr. Najfi included observing day surgery procedures, namely colonoscopies and GI endoscopies.
  • Experiences included observing Dr. Loganathan on rounds in the unit, perform physical examinations on patients, observed two procedures: an echocardiogram and paracentesis.


Trenton Memorial Hospital – In-Patient Ward

July-August 2023 (2 weeks)

  • Observed under supervising physician: Dr. Ashley Minuk
  • Experiences included observing Dr. Minuk on rounds in the unit and phone call assessments, physical examinations on patients, checking vitals, interaction with patients and the assessment plans/strategies for discharge.

  • Worked to manage workflow in the pharmacy by filling prescriptions and compliance packs, keeping records in the pharmacy software system under the supervision of the pharmacist.
