- Run various CNC and manual lathes to repair axles to strict specifications

Run various other types of work stations in the axle refurbishing process (ie, wheel pulls, wheel presses, wash stations)

- Operate different types of forklifts for various tasks

- Use a wide variety of jib/lifting devices

Locomotive Overhaul (~6 months)

- Strip and reassemble complete locomotives

- Use various overhead cranes

- Rigging and team crane moves often performed

Air Car Project (~1 year)

- Build and design air compressor car fleet

- Welding and box car modifications

= Lead team of new apprentices on project

- working around moving equipment

Symington - In Shop (~2 years)

- Perform yearly and semi-yearly inspections on locomotives

- Perform repairs as needed on engines and all other areas (minus generators and electrical systems)

- assist with moving units into/out of shop.

- working around loud moving equipment

Symington - In Yard (~6 months)

- Perform and sign off on final test/inspections for brake systems

- Perform and sign off on final visual inspection of complete unit

- Working on live rail tracks with moving equipment

- Night shift, working in low/no light situations

General Laborer - Shredder Clean Up (~3 months)

- Clean up debris in and around car shredder.

- Work with coworkers to ensure safety at all times

- Operate various heavy equipment (i.e., forklifts, boom lifts)

General Laborer - Switchman (~3 months)

- Ride on rail crane/box car and flip rail switches when required

- Work with/around heavy equipment during loading and unloading

- Use radio/hand signals for communication

Heavy Duty Mechanic Training (~1 year)

- Diagnose and repair mechanical issues on a range of equipment

- Equipment ranges from tools, to small engine automotive and industrial (forklifts), up to large engine track and rail cranes, to car shredders and shears.

- Work with large hydraulic systems

- Operate all equipment on site

- Rigging and team craning

- Welding

- Work under sr mechanic on maintenance shift completing larger tasks or tasks needed to get equipment ready for next operating shift

- Evening shift, working in changing/low light conditions

Heavy Duty Mechanic (~6 months)

= Solo mechanic on operating shift

- Keep equipment running for shift, or reduce downtime as much as possible

- Smaller temporary type repairs

- Night shift, working in low/no light situations

- Welding and part fabrication
