Destiny Waichigo

Co-President of organization consisting of about 50 high school scholars. Provides leadership and ideas for the group. Opens and closes weekly meetings, ensuring discussions are productive and in order. Coordinates board meetings, by setting the agenda and facilitating decision-making processes. Works closely with other board members to plan and organize events and create opportunities for scholars.

Attends and moderates weekly meetings of 30 people and participates in club activities. Takes minutes and shares them with the 5 other board members and club advisor. Contributes ideas and volunteers at events that pertain to the medical field, ex: Blood Drives.

Patient Unit and front desk volunteer. Serves in the Labor and Delivery & Postpartum Unit as of. Cares for 8-12 patients per shift by giving them water, food, and ensuring comfort. Checks in patients, discharges patients, and assists nurses and doctors with delivering paperwork and restocking mask stations. Occasionally shadows Nurse Anesthetist in the operating room.

Participated in an overnight 3 day program at UCI that involved participating in STEM based activities and receiving presentations from doctors and UCI students. Received a certificate of achievement for the program.

Teaches ASL to 5 year old non-verbal child with Cerebral Palsy. Assists with the care and education of the child.

Attended weekly college-level bible classes and attended Rock Church staff meetings as an intern. Assisted in organization and maintained the cleanliness of the church building.

Babysitter for children aged from 12 months to 8 years for 70+ hours total. CPR and First-Aid certified. Increased family satisfaction by building strong relationships with both children and parents based on trust and communication.

Made a presentation to Attorney General Rob Bonta, in front of 30 students from across Orange County, addressing raising mental health awareness within the African community.

Edged, shelved, and organized various genres of books. Checked in returned books. Learned and mastered the Dewey Decimal system. Assisted customers in locating books and technology questions.

Mentored and advised group of up to 30 freshmen. Participated in monthly meetings and assisted in setting up for Link Crew events. Attended 2-day training for each year consisting of team building activities such as games, competitions and challenges.

Volunteer at yearly community open house, teach and demonstrate to 250 students and parents about medical conditions and how to perform CPR and administer an AED. Used equipment to show how these medical procedures are done first hand. Helped in the set up and take-down of the event.

Division II level sports team in California Southern Section. Held #1 varsity doubles spot freshman and sophomore year, became league champions 2023, went to CIF Finals in November 2023 and won team finalist position.

Attends monthly board meetings. Records minutes and shares them with the rest of the committee. Takes part of the planning of large events that involve 40-60 teens and adults occurring across the nation. Currently planning an international mission to Africa.
