Recreation Worker/Day Camp Supervisor

  • Regular daily duties included the supervision of the Youth Center which provided after school and evening programming, scheduling of daily activities, ensuring adequate equipment and supplies for programming were on hand, liaising with other departments to provide programming. Duties also included providing a safe place for all youth ranging in age from 4 to 18.
  • I was also the Day Camp Supervisor for the last two months. This included supervising of six staff which included 4 summer students. Coordinating a schedule of full day activities which included learning opportunities, artistic options, cultural learning, and nutritional learning. The program lasted 8 weeks required a significant amount of work outside of programming hours to ensure success.

  • As the Community Health Clerk I was responsible for the day to day operation of the Non-Insured Health Benefit Medical Transportation program administered by the Pic River Health Center. I would receive applications, submit them, and work with Clients and Health Canada to resolve any type of issue that may occur during the use of this program. Work included scheduling air, bus, and vehicle travel as well as accommodations for when clients would travel for medical appointments.
  • Other duties included reception duties for the whole organization housed in the Health Center, supply ordering, scheduling maintenance, and working with all groups to ensure their needs were met from an administrative perspective.

Fire Contract/Office Administrator

  • As the Fire Contract Administrator, managed a forest fire services contract of 80 people. Responsible for hiring, training, payroll, coordination of fire fighters for each call, which included creating up to 20 work teams of 4, organizing their camp bags, coordinating travel, and ensuring each worker had the appropriate PPE, training records etc. This was all coordinated within a 24 hour period due to contractual deadlines imposed by the OMNR.
  • As the Office Administrator was responsible for greeting customers on daily basis, taking payments and assisting customers with the management of their accounts. Answering phones, printing and distributing faxes to co-workers, management of all accounts payable and receivables. Handled all payroll and human resources in the office which included hiring, dismissals, leave, etc. Managed the internal database for all customers as well as the database for fire fighters training records. Used Simply Accounting to handle all invoices and payroll. Also responsible for all administrative/clerical duties such as answering phones, faxing, photo copying, filing, office cleaning, mail, etc.

  • Under the supervision and guidance of the Park Manager, worked with all area First Nation communities in hopes to create a better relationship between Parks Canada and the Robinson Superior Treaty Group. Liaised with First Nations on Park matters such as visitor experience, treaty group entitlements within Pukaskwa, education and awareness of the park, Species At Risk, and other ecological integrity programming. Other duties included working with Pic River residents in the Hattie Cove Campground Committee and helping to create effective guidelines for camping produced by Pic River community members.

  • Worked under the Fire Administrator in the implementation of the 3 year Fire Services contract with the Ministry of Natural Resources. Duties involve going to each of the Forward Attack Bases where our crews are on standby or to actual Fireline Bases and deal with any and all employee concerns that arise. Liaised with MNR Fire Officials on day to day crew activity. Responsible for ensuring workers abide by MNR policies and procedures as well as any and all relevant health and safety legislation, dealt with any disciplinary issues that arrised, as well as reconciliation of time and employee purchases. I also ensure that personal needs such as prescription levels and personal comfort items are acquired for various personnel.
