Ben Pressman hired me as a lead carpenter and I learned on the job how to manage subcontractors. We worked on projects in the Palo Alto neighborhoods. Two projects built in 1983 and 1984 were in San Mateo County on Skyline Boulevard.
The first was a significant remodel at 18000 Skyline, built originally for Mr. Diamond in 1923. The project, highlighted vaulted ceilings, a French, country kitchen, French doors and decks with amazing ocean views.
The second was a Green & Green style new two story home on Big Tree Way, designed by Elmore and Kramer.
Edward Powell worked primarily in Hillsborough, building small additions to large homes.
I was very fortunate to learn from a master builder how to build from the ground up. My training was about all aspects of carpentry, including foundations, framing, exterior finish work and interior finish work.
Edward had learned his trade from Swedish carpenters and passed on his knowledge to me. We used hand saws, block plans and hung doors with a 2" butt chisel.
He taught me, to do things correctly the first time and his goal was to build homes that would last 100 years. This premise I valued and has lasted with me until present day.
My passion and experience in residential construction keeps me interested in building challenging projects that require problem solving and attention to detail
I love working with employees and subcontractors
I believe it is a team spirit, that is paramount for successful project completions
