Major Duties And Responsibilities

  • Supervisor Electronic Technician, I am the administrator within the Department of Justice with the responsibility of maintaining the physical security of the Department of Justice through installation, maintenance and repairs of an array of electronic systems inclusive, but not limited to, PBX telephone switch, trunked radio systems, fire alarm systems, perimeter detection systems, programmable logic controllers and CCTV/DVR system. These systems are critical to the physical security of the Department of Justice in preserving the safety and well-being of Officers and the Public.
  • Facility Manager, General Foreman, I regularly serve as Facility Manager, General Foreman in all activities related to staffing to include union relations and negotiations. I prepare project designs, installation, operations and maintenance, procurement, and purchasing while providing oversight of cost centers. I have specialized training in firearms, self-defense, medical emergencies, management, safety management, interpersonal communication skills including FEMA operations.
  • System Maintenance and Development, I maintain and develop modifications to ensure the reliability of the Department of Justice electronic security and communication systems. I coordinate technical support during the preparation of drawings and specifications for electronic and telecommunication equipment as required by B&F Projects, Work Orders, etc. I conduct inspections and coordinate research and development of all new systems and equipment, perform preventive maintenance as required while developing schedules for life cycle replacement.
  • Federal Officer Responsibilities, As a federal officer I have the authority to enforce criminal statutes and/or judicial sanctions, including investigative, arrest and/or detention authority. Authority to carry firearms and exercise appropriate force to establish and/or maintain control over individuals. I regularly enter hostile or life-threatening situations accessing the situation to make clear decisive decisions affecting the life, well-being, civil liberties, and/or property of others.

The incumbent functions as the Electronics Technician in the Facilities Department at a Bureau of Prisons (BOP) federal correctional facility. This department administers the ongoing development and maintenance programs for the correctional facility. The incumbent is responsible for work direction and production within this position.
