  • I have acted in several pro bono matters, including the case of an impoverished young Chinese woman who, before she escaped, was tortured, abused and imprisoned by the Chinese Communists because of her Falun Gong spiritual beliefs. We served the responsible Chinese governmental authority with an Ontario Statement of Claim when he attended Ottawa on an occasion of state.

  • During this phase, I conducted hundreds of trials, including jury trials, and appeared in all of Ontario’s courts as well as the federal Tax Court and Supreme Court of Canada.
  • I was also in charge of the continuing education of our firm’s articling students and was the partner responsible to the Law Society for their legal and ethical development.
  • As plaintiffs’ counsel in the class action Authorson v. Canada, [2003] 2 S.C.R. 40, I represented over 10,000 disabled war veterans, their widows and children, and battled the unlimited resources of the federal government to the Supreme Court of Canada. In that case, the Court assessed the veterans' damages, at more than $4,600,000,000.00 inclusive of interest.
  • In Raphael Partners v. Lam, 2002 CanLII 45078 (ONCA), I was responsible for one of the initial modern Court of Appeal decisions concerning contingency fee agreements and their legality in Ontario.
