• Lead hand in farrowing taking care of baby piglets. Including fostering and individual treatment
• Health care of sows identifying individual treatments
• Vaccination of piglets
• Monitoring feeding system and ventilation
• Assists with purebred management
• General farm duties

The main focus is farrowing and caring for piglets until weaning (21-25 days of life), but I know and do work in the insemination and rearing department.

List of tasks I performed daily:

• Performing farrowing, assisting with problem births
• Fostering newborn piglets
• Daily checking of pigs and sows
• Observing animals with restlessness
• Castrating piglets in 3-4 days after birth and docking tails
• Weaning piglets in 3-4 weeks after birth
• Recognizing and treating certain health problems, vaccinating pigs
• Preparing and administrating medications to the sows
• Administrating vaccinations or medications to newborn piglets
• Keeping records

• Assisting with animal examination.
• Fixation of the animal during various manipulations.
• Subcutaneous and intramuscular injections.
• Placement of a catheter into the v. cephalica.
• Intravenous drip placement.
• Cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments.
• Preparation for surgery and assistance during surgery.
• Maintaining cleanliness throughout the workday.
