  • I work as a shipper and receiver and have been doing that job since I started
  • I work a 5 day 40 hour week like most people and enjoy my job
  • A typical day consists of unloading and verifying the quantities, material and putting it away or making sure the right people get it
  • As member of the receiving staff we are relied upon heavily to be accurate trustworthy and professional as we deal with customers and people from outside our company every day
  • We do get requested a lot to help maintain the facility and are required to operate the heavy machinery we have safely to complete daily tasks assigned to us by management
  • Every day is different, one day we can be loading units worth hundreds of thousands of dollars or be cleaning up the floor of material which would involve counting, paperwork and organizing as to make the plant safer and easier to access material and make the productions job easier

  • After about seven months I had the opportunity to get my Walkie (electric pallet truck) license and start working in the order picking department
  • I worked specifically in our general merchandise department building orders that would get dropped off at loading and shipped out
  • A few months later I requested to be trained in the Receiving Department and attained my Dock Stocker (Stand Up Counter Balance) License
  • I had the responsibility of working in small teams or independently where all product entering our facility came through us and was categorized accurately and put away wherever needed
  • The opportunities I had to grow the most occurred while working in Receiving
  • I learned the safety protocols in dealing with food, hazardous materials, clothing and general merchandise
  • The paper work and offloading was also conducted by me in most cases where I was left to my own devices to get the job done

  • My first job there was working on the assembly line putting together parts for the Camaro chassis
  • I was moved away from that department to a drum press where we worked as a crew to feed and load the machine as well as fine tune the products when they reached the end
  • A few months later I was placed in charge of the press where I coordinated the day to day of running the machine
  • From doing paper work on faulty parts or whenever there was a need to do maintenance in our work station, I would radio in a request to specific trades depending on the problems we were having
  • I would coordinate with them, my Lead Hand and Supervisor as well as do any all paper work required
