I am a committed Shelter and social Worker professional with over 8 years of experience as a frontline staff, administrator and social worker. Because of working in a number of charitable organisations, I have become more passionate about supporting individuals and families experiencing homelessness, addiction, mental health and trauma. A variety of trainings including; Toronto Shelter Standards and Staff safety guide, Harm Reduction Program, Client Centred work, Crisis Prevention and Intervention and CPR/First Aid have developed my skills and personal attributes to work more in the human service sector. My most recent position working as a relief shelter worker has strengthened my skills, knowledge and approach on; de-escalation techniques for both clients and fellow staff, refugees, homelessness in Toronto, Housing First approach, working with diverse populations including those experiencing homelessness, barriers due to social, mental, sexual factors and persons with a history in the criminal justice system, Community Resource mapping, crisis prevention and key legislation and policies at Municipal and province levels among others. I am confident that my experience has exposed me more to; case management, documentation of incidents and client information, development of case plans, ensuring safety and wellbeing of clients and staff, shift occurrence documentation among others. I am very passionate and committed to working with and for people whose lives are affected by drug use, mental health and chronic homelessness and other causes of vulnerability. I have strong communication skills and the ability to connect well including in diverse settings. I have been privileged to work with a number of individuals from different backgrounds, coming from different spheres of life changing events, including substance use. With experience as a client support worker, I strongly believe in confidentiality and individualization among other principles to serve the client better and meet their needs.
