I ask questions in order to learn to the best of my ability and do not take it personally if someone is not having the best day. I am patient, kind, and considerate. I have a strong sense of professionalism and uphold my work skills to the upmost standards. I am a great edition to any team and provide a diligent and detail oriented work ethic.
At Twin Rivers Unified School District we are a team of School Nurses, Licensed Vocational Nurses, and Health Services Assistant. As an HSA I am mainly in charge of the Health Office at two Elementary Schools. Schools often have a high need of Health Assistants because children have various health needs such as inhalers, epinephrine pen, prescription pharmaceutical pills and emergency medications such as Diazepam. I am in charge of ensuring the first aid kit is provided to every Teacher going on a field trip with the students. Helping students when they need their medications, and being present if any medical emergency may come about. One of my biggest responsibilities is ensuring the students are compliant with the states mandated vaccinations, giving parents a grace period before exclusion if still non compliant. Communicating with parents and providing necessary recourses and paper work to have medications in the medication cabinet, ready for administration by the Health Services Assistant, I have perfected my customer service skills and became an efficient and productive Medical Assistant in a team of wonderful health care professionals.
At the Sacramento Native American Health Center we prioritized working together in order to not fall behind on patient care. We kept one another accountable and helped each other when we had a question. It was an environment in which we were not shamed for asking questions and instead were encouraged to ask question in order for our growth as a Medical Assistant. The procedures in which I excelled was customer service. I was proud to help my co workers with lowering the amount of tasks in the task bar. I was always willing to help others. I helped about 23 patient in one work day, documented vital signs and communicated with Doctors and Physicians Assistants in order to relay information about a patients cheif complaint.
This employment location was where I completed my Medical assistant externship. I was the first student to volunteer to administer Tramadol IM injections. This center is a chronic pain clinic that helps patients that have gotten injured on the job. I was happy to assist patient as a chaperone for a functional capacity evaluations. I eased patients pain with ultrasonic heat therapy on different parts of the body that suffered injury. I gave patient education on how to use TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation) Unit to manage chronic pain at home. I helped some patients required Paraffin wax for their hands to ease pain. We interviewed patients before and after procedures to document pain levels from 1-10. We also added new patients to the Electronic Health Record and recorded vital signs.
