Central Alberta Tenant Advocate, Advocating for tenancy rights and minimizing homelessness, Responsible for managing and organizing the Tenant Advocate program through the Community Legal Clinic with the mentorship and guidance of Staff Lawyer, Jamie Smith., Main point of contact with Tenants seeking legal information regarding their rights and obligations within the Residential Tenancy Act., Mediation between Landlords, Landlord’s representatives, and Tenants in an attempt to resolve disputes fairly and accurately with a concentration on restoring balance in a crisis;, Organize and maintain client records for presentation to the Director for funding and additional support if necessary., Creating highly researched and articulate legal paperwork such as tribunal applications, research of relevant case law, preparations of tribunal applications, defense documents, and hearing exhibit preparation., Extensive knowledge of the Residential Tenancies Act, Alberta Housing Act, Alberta Health Act, and other legislation related to the rights and obligations of Landlords and Tenants in Alberta., I have advanced research skills., Planning and preparing litigation documents per the Rules of Practice and Procedures., Coaching individuals with Provincial Court applications on a limited scope basis., Extensive knowledge of Residential Tenancy Dispute Resolutions Services and appearing in Alberta Residential Tenancy Tribunals., Recently joined National Network for Tenants’ Advocate group to obtain further information on the proposed Renters Bill of Rights and how this legislation will affect our clients., Actively working with Alberta Law Reform Institute in respect to reviewing and updating of legislation related to the Residential Tenancies Act of Alberta.
