My role involves overseeing and maintaining Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) collection and reuse programs, including tasks such as receiving, identifying, sorting, lab-packing, consolidating, and disposing of waste chemicals. It also includes leading and providing guidance to lower-level hazardous waste personnel in daily operations. My daily duties require using HAZCAT techniques to identify the chemical nature of spilled or unknown substances. It entails acting as a liaison with the public, community groups, government agencies, and businesses for proper HHW disposal. I am also involved in staying updated on relevant legislation and assisting with policy and procedure updates. Additionally, the position requires operating various equipment, such as refrigerant recovery devices, paint can crushers, and forklifts, as needed.
