SCHOOL GROUPS VISITING THE RESORT - TERRAIN PARK

Purpose The purpose of this standard operating procedure is to outline the Resort’s Roles and Responsibilities for visiting OSBIE school groups accessing the Terrain Park. Ensuring the 2023 OSBIE Guidelines are delivered.
Prior to Arrival Schools utilizing the Terrain Park will provide a document (spreadsheet) to Horseshoe Resort Guest Services listing the following:
Full name of the skier / snowboarder
Skier or Snowboarder
Their level of skiing / boarding ability
Skier must have appropriate ski equipment for the Terrain Park
This document will be received at the Resort no later than one week prior to their arrival.
Arrival Procedures Bus Orientation Upon arrival a resort snow school instructor will board the bus, welcome everyone to the resort and outline how the day will transpire. Information read out from the Resort’s standard script (Appendix A) While the students are briefed on the day’s activities, a teacher will go into Guest Services to obtain the lift tickets and submit the completed:
Special Winter Excursion Form / Parental Consent, OSBIE 1b
Release and Indemnity Agreement, OSBIE 1c
Terrain Park Ski and Snowboard Lesson All students accessing the terrain park will receive lessons (six-week program) on terrain park features and terrain park riding skill development.
Mobility To qualify to participate in the Terrain Park, skier or snowboarder must meet a minimum blue stripe competency.
Advanced skiers and snow boarders will report to the Assessment Hill area where their ski/ boarding ability is assessed and verified by a certified (CASI/CSCF/CSIA) ski/snowboard Terrain Park instructor.
Blue Black Strong parallel turns on a blue and black hill. Be able to sideslip from a straight run for 4 meters both sides (left and right). Able to ski switch (backwards) on groomed runs (twin tips skis required). 10 fall line short radius turns on a blue hill.
Maintain relaxed body position sliding 360 degrees. Link short radius turns on blue and black hills. Perform nose and tail press – hops / pops while riding. Able to ride switch. Able to sideslip to short radius turns
Assessment Hill Testing Area The testing and assessment area will be on a blue and black hills
Six Week Lesson Plan The objective is to provide safe controlled lessons on Terrain Park features by Certified Terrain Park Instructors, who will be in the terrain park at all times during lesson delivery.

Terrain Park Ski / Snowboard Instructors Only certified (CASI/CSCF/CSIA) in Terrain Park ski/snowboard instructors will teach individual or groups lessons. Assistant Instructors can assist the instructor, but a certified instructor must be present and lead the lesson at all times. There must be at least one certified instructor with each lesson group. All one-on-one lessons will be done with a certified instructor
Emergency Plan The Resort Emergency plan is activated in the event a student is hurt:
Unable to continue skiing or snowboarding
Requires an ambulance
Ski Patrol will take the lead on this situation. Contact information will be provided in advance to ski patrol. Contact information will include the cell phone number of the School Group Supervisor(s) who will immediately report to Ski Patrol and assist Ski Patrol by advising the school and the parents of the injured student and assist with transportation if an ambulance is not required.

Welcome everybody to Horseshoe Resort
Show if hands who are beginner; advanced skiers / snowboarders
All students, and teachers/chaperones will receive an RFID card. This card must be in the pocket on your left hand side. Do not have anything else in this pocket. Everyone will receive a lift ticket from their teacher as they leave the bus. Attach the ticket to your jacket, it must be clearly visible to the chair lift operators, as this is where the stripe will go.
Those needing rentals will head over to the Rental department, follow staff direction, your teacher will record your rental information; then meet outside at the Red Snow School flag.
Those not needing rentals, head directly to the Red Snow School Flag for further directions
All Teachers and chaperones will meet outside at the Red Snow School flag
Explain the Sticker process and how a colour sticker will be given based on their ski ability. You are only permitted on hills that match your sticker colour. Red stickers can only ski on the beginner hill Pinto. Green stickers can ski only on Green hills. Blue stickers can ski on Green and blue hills. Only a Black sticker can ski on any Black hills as well as Green and Blue hills.
All beginners start with a Red sticker and must remain on the beginner hill Pinto. All beginners will attend a mandatory lesson at the beginner hill Pinto.
For all non beginner skiers / snowboarders; explain they must attend the stripe test and where it is located. You must be evaluated and receive a colour sticker before heading up the hills.
All Green and Blue sticker students will meet at the Red Snow School flag at 12:30 for their lesson.
Green and Blue sticker students will have the opportunity to upgrade during their lesson.
Explain current hill snow conditions and to ski accordingly
Explain the Role of Ski Patrol
Explain the trail classifications and signage on top of each chair Lift / Hills.
Explain how the chair lifts operate, ensuring the safety bar is put down immediately after loading.
Explain an overview of the Alpine Code of Conduct
Always stay in control and ski or ride within your comfort and ability
Have the ability to stop and avoid objects and skier /rider in front of you
Only ski on groomed trails; stay off closed areas and bush
Explain proper clothing to wear based on the weather conditions.
Explain inappropriate behaviour will not be tolerated and could lead to a lift ticket removal.
Most important – enjoy yourself and have fun!!
