Extracurriculars

Control-Competitive Ultimate Frisbee Team:

Player/Cutter Joined the selective team through tryouts. Attended weekly practices and participated in tournaments and league matches. Team placed third in states.

Menlo-Atherton Ultimate Frisbee Team:

Vice President, Head Coach, Team Captain, Handler. Organizes weekend club practices to participate in tournaments. Co-handles logistics for traveling and registration of the team. Leads players during matches and creates plays.

Robotics:

Electrical/Assembly/Design. Helped design climbing mechanism of robot: led prototyping for climbing team then supervised assembly of actual version that was implemented onto robot. Wires mechanisms on robot to function. Mentors incoming members during off season competition.

Rock Band August:

Bassist. Meets weekly with instructor and band at Riekes. Attends self organized practice sessions with other members. Focuses on Rock music. Played concerts at the Riekes Center Fundraiser, Nativity School Carnival, and The Guild Theatre.

Piano:

Took lessons for nine years and performed at recitals. Currently practices for enjoyment.

Violin:

Takes lessons from private instructor to perform solo pieces. Has performed at fundraisers for youth music programs. Performed in Nashville, Chicago, and Anaheim symphony halls with school orchestra.

M-A Bike Club:

President. Repairs students and community members' bikes. Fixes donated bikes which are then donated to disadvantaged students. Repaired over 40 bikes. Learns the mechanics of bikes while making a difference in the community.

M-A Chinese Culture Club:

Treasurer. Applied for PTA grants and helped organize fundraisers/activities to gain money for the club.

Tennis:

Varsity doubles player. Plays weekly doubles matches during the season. Participates in USTA tournaments and UTR leagues for recreational competition.

Training

Operation Catapult:

Selective program at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology to investigate various fields of engineering. I investigated mechanical/aerospace engineering specifically, designing airplane wings to test efficacy in a wind tunnel.

Try Engineering Camp:

Attended a summer camp at University of San Diego to introduce students to various fields of engineering: civil, electrical/computer, mechanical/aerospace, environmental.

Astrophysics Camp:

Stanford astrophysics camp to deeply explore the subject. I specifically chose black holes and researched them intensely, followed by a presentation.

UC Berkeley Engineering Camp:

Competitive application: intensive 8-week hybrid program designed to give 30 students STEM field college experience. Taught directly by Berkeley Mechanical Engineering professors. Learned and applied skills in CAD, CS, Design, and Electrical, directly to a final project.
