To secure a challenging and growth-oriented position in the IT field where I can leverage my background in help desk support, systems administration, and web development to contribute to efficient technical operations, enhance user experiences, and drive continuous improvement through innovative solutions and proactive system management.
In this role, I was responsible for implementing and managing core network services, including DHCP, DNS, Active Directory, and Group Policy Objects, to support a secure and efficient IT environment. I configured advanced firewall rules to safeguard communication between internal networks and external systems, ensuring robust perimeter security. Additionally, I installed, configured, maintained, and administered a range of operating systems, such as Windows Server 2008, 2012, and 2016, as well as Linux distributions, including Ubuntu and Red Hat Enterprise, ensuring high availability and optimal performance across diverse platforms.
I enhanced team productivity by automating repetitive tasks using batch scripts, PowerShell, and Python, streamlining workflows, and reducing manual effort. Additionally, I developed responsive and dynamic web applications using Python, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and jQuery. To further improve user experience and interactivity, I leveraged AJAX and JSON to enable seamless communication between the client and server without full-page reloads.
Even though I led the development of many transformative web projects, a few are worthy of reference. I played a leading role during the development of the Accreditation Management Information System (AMIS). This project, which is accessible at https://amis.gtec.edu.gh/, seeks to digitize the entire tertiary education quality assurance processes in Ghana, and it incorporates quality standards and norms that the national regulator, Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, has adopted. Another project that is also worthy of note is the National Expert Database, which is live and accessible at https://experts.gtec.edu.gh/. It also compiles the list of all lecturers in the Ghanaian public universities, their qualifications, areas of specialization, and the universities in which they lecture. This project sought to curb lecturer moonlighting and improve lecturer efficiency.
My main duties in this role involved the provision of comprehensive systems management and support by managing, troubleshooting, backing up, and restoring data, operating systems, files, documents, and drivers. Specifically, I implemented automated backup operations to ensure data integrity and business continuity. To maintain secure access and data protection, I configured user permissions for files and databases, enforced cybersecurity policies and best practices, and installed firewalls and antivirus software. Additionally, I reduced email spam by implementing firewall filtering and leveraging real-time spam blacklists. My work also included diagnosing and resolving system issues through basic troubleshooting to ensure consistent system performance.
