Motivated, compassionate and empathetic Child & Youth Counsellor and Psychotherapist with extensive experience supporting individuals with mental health and/or substance abuse issues, developing and implementing group and individual therapeutic programming, and supporting individuals 1:1 utilizing psychotherapeutic techniques aligned with their individual client goals.
· Children and youth under 18
· As a short-term crisis stabilization unit, upon admission, patients are assessed and observed by a multidisciplinary team with the goal of identifying any potential diagnostic issues and/or medication adjustments (if required) that may be pertinent to treatment planning.
· During their stay, patients are expected to stabilize as they participate in evidence-based individual, and group psychotherapeutic treatments centered around improving symptom and functional improvement.
· As patients stabilize, outpatient / community supports are identified to help with a quick and smooth transition back to the community.
· Child and youth counsellors (CYC’s):
Non-profit organization providing youth, ages 12-17, a safe therapeutic community in which they can address their substance abuse, any additional mental health concerns, and involvement with the criminal justice system. The therapeutic community provides youth a safe and therapeutic environment to begin focusing on uncovering issues contributing to their substance use, whether those be issues stemming from learning disabilities, additional mental health diagnoses, familial issues, social issues, or even academic concerns, such that they no longer feel unable to function day-to-day without substances.
Case Managers work with the patients on their assigned caseload to development and implement individualized care and case management plans. Additionally, case managers:
Maintain accurate and up-to-date clinical files on assigned patients
• Develop and facilitate therapeutic, educational, and team building groups and activities
• Accurate completion of logbooks, incident reports, and all relevant reports to the Ministries of Child and Youth Services and Community and Social Services
• Provide 1:1 counsellingand support to patient
• Open, frequent communication with the staff team to ensure safety of all
• Implementing behaviouralintervention when required
Pine River Institute is a residential treatment centre and outdoor leadership experience for youth 13 to 19 struggling with addictive behaviours and often other mental health issues. Residential Youth Counsellors (RYC’s) play many roles at Pine River, such as
· Contribute as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team to evaluate student progress according to their individual treatment plan
· Design and implement therapeutic activities to meet the physical, emotional, and educational of the youth
· Implementing crisis / behavioural interventions when required
· Providing individual and group counselling
· Support youth in completing activities of daily living, academics, attending and participating in various therapeutic groups and activities, etc.
· The ability to quickly adapt to, and work within, the different therapeutic styles of four therapists
· Assist teachers during academic periods, managing behaviours and helping youth complete their Ontario Secondary School Diploma
· Monitor and supervise all activities and behaviours of students, according to established therapeutic goals of the program in general
