Summary

I am a senior IT professional with over 20 years of experience in technology and IT management. I have a strong business approach to IT management and have been successful in process and service delivery improvement initiatives for several organizations. My last 10 years have been focused on Information Security and I have had the good fortune to have been part of delivering and building some strong security programs for a number of different organizations. A key strength is my ability to understand and adapt corporate objectives and align them with IT security solutions. My experience has involved working at all levels within IT organizations from Service Desk to senior management for an international software development company. I managed server and workstation infrastructures from architecture to security on three continents and have worked as a consultant for two of the largest IT consulting companies in the world.

Work History

Enterprise Systems Coordinator

Live Global Bid
04.2006
  • My position with Live Global Bid (LGB) began in April 2006
  • At that time the organization had no formal IT processes, no reporting and a clear capacity problem
  • The first task was to determine the current state of the IT operation
  • This required setting up a framework for system statistics data collection and a mechanism for analysis of this data
  • This required an understanding of the business as well as the technology
  • Once data was being collected and the LGB management team could correlate problems and events it was easier to identify system limitations
  • The initial data analysis showed a capacity limit that was previously unknown
  • After identifying the capacity issue, the development team was able to use the same data analysis to determine a number of issues in the system
  • The result was a 37% increase in customer activity with no need for additional capital investment
  • Further analysis of the system statistics led me to a new architectural concept that was deployed at the end of 2007
  • A 10% infrastructure cost increase resulted in a further 63% customer activity increase due to the ability to provide services to customers while maintaining a low operating cost
  • In addition to the architectural improvements, I was able to introduce processes to help control asset tracking and acquisition
  • Previously, a lack of asset tracking resulted in developers working on extremely outdated hardware, which limited productivity
  • I introduced a PC lifecycle program, which allowed LGB to make the best use of hardware and timed hardware purchases so as to get the most value from volume purchasing
  • This reduced LGB’s hardware costs per employee by 48% while ensuring that employees had the appropriate tools to do their job
  • Another aspect of my role was establishing a strong working relationship with LGB’s service providers
  • LGB’s server hardware was hosted by another company so it was critical that service providers understood the business and needs and that vendors acted as partners
  • In negotiations with LGB’s suppliers, I was able to build an account team dedicated to custom service delivery
  • This involved creating documentation for the LGB systems and providing service providers with appropriate information that would allow them to make decisions which ultimately would help to improve service levels
  • LGB could now leverage the expertise of service providers at no additional cost while keeping internal resource costs at a minimum.

  • While maintaining LAI’s data centre costs for 2009, I was able to achieve a 27% increase in customer activity (user load) over 2008 in Q1 of 2009 alone
  • I led the team to streamline the deployment of new development environments for new projects
  • Prior to this streamlining initiative, deployment of new development environments was typically completed in 2 weeks
  • This included hardware set up, OS installation and configuration of the development environment
  • Using blade server hardware, virtualization and process improvement, I was able to reduce the provisioning and deployment time to 3 days.
