  • As a Hotel Houseman at Crystal Lodge in Whistler, I am responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of both private and public areas throughout the establishment. This includes meticulously cleaning and tidying guest rooms, ensuring they are pristine and welcoming for incoming guests. Additionally, I am entrusted with the upkeep of public spaces such as lobbies, corridors, and lounges, ensuring they are always presentable and inviting.
  • In addition to cleaning duties, I play a crucial role in the logistical operations of the hotel by delivering supplies to various departments. Whether it's transporting linens to housekeeping, restocking amenities in guest rooms, or distributing equipment to different areas of the hotel, I ensure that essential supplies are efficiently delivered to where they are needed.
  • Furthermore, I am responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the hotel's kitchen and dining areas. This involves staying on top of dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment to ensure smooth operations for the culinary team.   • Over the holiday period of 2022 I worked in a temporary pop up bar in the Newcastle Christmas markets
  • Duties included serving customers, handiwork around the bar and towards the end of my contract leading other members of staff
  • Moreover teamwork was vital to keeping the bar running correctly as it was a pop up bar and often there were more technical difficulties than would be expected at a normal bar, so I would delegate different roles to different people in order to fix issues whilst still delivering a satisfactory customer service.

  • Over the summers of 2021, 2022 and continuing through to 2023 I have worked and will be working for festival extras, a festival luxury clamping company that provides high end tents, wash facilities and customer service for numerous festivals across the UK and Ireland
  • The tasks before and after festival show days involve constructing up to 5,000 tents and gazebos over a week in numerous groups of around 10 individuals my age which relies on effective teamwork and coordination
  • Furthermore for the summer of 2022 I was leading the site crew which involved taking the leading role in more complicated constriction jobs around the festival such as constructing fencing, bars and more intricate structures
  • Over the summer of 2023 as I am now a senior member of staff I have taken on a leadership position helping to run a team building large, canvas tents along with another senior member of staff, often meeting deadlines of over 100 large tents in a single days work
  • On the show days of the festival it is our job to make customers feel welcome and to look into any requests or complaints, meaning I have experience with dealing with customers efficiently and professionally
  • This job can be very unpredictable due to numerous factors which has given me experience in critical thinking and problem solving.

Commercial archaeologist

  • For two weeks over Easter in 2022 I worked at a post-excavation finds processing department of the commercial archaeology company PCA, which involved me working independently in a professional environment cataloging and archiving highly sensitive finds from archaeological sites, which were then in turn to be studied by academics who would use the data which I had compiled for them
  • This gave me experience in not only how to be confidant in my own, independent work but also gave me experience in working with professionals in my chosen career choice.

Lost minds festival/Fakefest Newcastle

  • Over the last weekend of April 2023 i took a last minute bar job at a festival which took place in newcastle
  • The main duties involved moving between different bars on the festival sites and serving drinks in a high pressure environment which, involved working effectively in a team to keep lines short and customers happy
  • Besides the main bar work my other duties included moving heavy crates and barrels of stock through the festival site to different bars, as well as helping the production teams move artists equipment to the different stages.

  • For two weeks during the summer of 2021 I participated in an archaeological excavation which took place on hadriens wall, excavating Birdoswald roman fort
  • During the two weeks i was working under experienced archaeologists participating in manual labor in small teams.

  • During sixth form i worked as a shop floor assistant in the shoe shop footasylum
  • Duties involved re-stocking shelves, working on the till, helping customers with problems and sorting stock in the back however i was primarily on the shop floor
  • This job gave me experience in working as a team but also in the correct manner in which to deal with customers quickly and professionally.

  • Time management- Working for festival extras has given skills of time management as keeping to a schedule whilst constructing tents is a crucial part of the job Furthermore my experience at Crystal lodge has expanded on this
  • Leadership and Teamwork - As previously mentioned I led the site crew at Isle of Wight festival in 2022 and co-led a tent construction crew in 2023 which involved me organizing the construction of fences, gazebos, tents
  • Critical Thinking Skills- When working festivals things will go wrong as it's an unpredictable job which means it requires a certain level of critical thinking in order to tackle new challenges when they present themselves Moreover as a houseman at Crystal lodge, many of the duties are performed independently meaning independent problem solving is a vital part of the role
  • Customer Service- Working in Footasylum, behind a bar and festivals has given me experience in the appropriate ways in which to address customers, and how to carry myself in their presence
  • Independent work- My work experience as a commercial archaeologist required independent critical thinking to tackle work and collect data which then went on to help in the creation of academic archaeological projects
