My name is Sean and I am a sophomore geography and aviation student. I chose this major because of my love for flying. I have always loved flying since I was a kid. I came to Canada from high school, but unfortunately I didn't know about the air cadet program at the time, so I didn't participate in it from the beginning. If I had the chance again, I would definitely go for it. The time until grade 11 that I realized I needed to make a decision about my future career. So I Google'd the requirements to look up how to become an airline pilot. I did a lot of research and decided that I wanted to go into the aviation program at the University of Waterloo, and I started to look for ways to get into flying, downloading flight simulation games and attending flight-related events like galas to get a feel for what it's like to be a pilot. I actually took ppl ground school at Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre in grade 12 and finished it. Just when I was ready to start flying, my instructor told me that if I wanted to get into aviation at the University of Waterloo I needed to follow the progression of the integrated ATPL program and suggested not to complete the ppl early. i decided to wait until I came to the university before I started flying, so I studied hard. I got offers from Science and aviation and geography and aviation in November 2022, I was happy because it was an early offer 9 months before I started university. After get into the university, I always had a love for flying and wanted to start contributing something, so I applied to volunteer for grade 6 at Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre. And I started volunteer in October 2024. Although I am not an expert pilot after all, I just started my flying career, but I still know the basics of flying. Plus I have finished the PPL ground so I have the ability to explain the basics to them. Of course in my spare time I am also looking for part time to take the stress out of flying tuition. I'm currently working as a cashier, but I've always wanted to find a part time job at an airport, because every time I go to an airport I can't help but be happy, and I take every opportunity that comes my way very seriously. Although I am not a native speaker, my language ability is improving step by step.
I'm so happy to be a volunteer on wwfc's 6th grade tour, introducing the principles of airplanes to six them and making flying fun and educational through fun interactive explanations and entertaining flight simulation games. I also shared my love of aviation with them, which I thought was a very meaningful thing to do. This experience enhanced my leadership skills, and time control management. I was able to organize the group and get them to follow instructions to get everyone to experience and visit the flight in a timely manner.
I am a 2nd year student at the University of Waterloo studying Geography and Aviation and a student pilot at WWFC. I have a deep love for aviation; the moment I took my first flight, I knew that more than a career path, flying was my dream for life. Even though I consider myself a novice, my growth through flight training in all areas, from technical skills to situational awareness, aerodynamic fundamentals, and flight operations, has been substantial. I am always working on improving my flying skills in some form every day. My myriad interests related to aviation allow me to keep learning and developing, ultimately towards becoming a competent and responsible pilot one day.
As a cashier in a supermarket, It's not directly related to aviation, yet the experience has given me the opportunity to develop strong interpersonal communication skills, hone my problem-solving and decision-making capabilities, and deal effectively with unexpected situations. I have also learned the importance of working under pressure, providing good customer service, and being adaptable to a wide range of challenges. All of those are valuable skills in any workplace, including the aviation field.
I'm pleased to be the leader of the Chinese group canvassing for Effie J. to keep her Ontario PC in power for another four years in Oakville-North Burlington.
