Cheng is a lecturer on improving reproductive performance in laying roosters, where he is working to illuminate the relationship between gut microbiota and testes (gut-testes axis). He is interested in the role of the gut microbiome in nutrition and health. Cheng did his Ph.D. at Maastricht University in the Netherlands, Dietary fibre plays an important role in maintaining gut health and preventing diseases. Therefore, he worked on developing new pre/probiotics and improving fiber digestibility. He also worked on developing a molecular biology method to screen carbohydrate constitution, a high throughput method to recognize cell-wall polysaccharides using carbohydrate-binding modules (CBM). He is also interested in bioinformatics, and he spends much of his leisure time self-learning Linux, Python, and R programs, and also some applied bioinformatics courses.
