Accomplishments

  • Developed Destination Canada’s economic sector strategy to attract global business events aligned with Canada’s priority economic sectors. This strategy included the development of a new internal business model, development of a new partnership model which increased revenue from $300K to $4M in 4 years, new marketing team to guide the brand development and alignment with sales and marketing assets, new research platform for evidence based decision making and grew the team from 6 to 18 in 5 years.
  • Developed one of Canada's first 5 year Master Tourism Plan for Winnipeg. The purpose of the 2011 – 2016 Master Tourism Plan was to set a strategic direction and identify key issues and initiatives aimed at growing Winnipeg’s competitive tourism position in the global market and to increase community engagement and partnerships. Developed and led the creation of Team Winnipeg, a consortium of traditional and non-traditional partners in the hospitality industry working together to create a bigger impact in the competitive environment in order to secure future conventions into Winnipeg. The partnership grew by over 200% in 8 years with a consistent growing budget every year.
  • Lead the negotiation of attraction of major sports and special event bids for Winnipeg from 1999-2016 and oversaw the City of Winnipeg’s Special Event Tourism Fund, a $50M funding mechanism to attract major events to Winnipeg.
