(Operations Manager) Logistics & HSE Coordinator

  • Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for managing monthly maintenance and fuel supply and ensuring effective delivery of power to NWTEL remote sites for 149 microwave stations in the Yukon, NWT, Nunavut, Northern B.C and Northern Alberta
  • Maintain power generation station maintenance plan and schedule; supervise power generation technicians, sub-contractors and conduct training and job duties
  • Maintain and report on the monthly contract budgets, costs, expenditures and revenue to ATCO Frontec directors as well as Northwestel directors within the contract Scope of Work
  • Provide leadership, direction, planning and implementation of monthly maintenance schedules for power generation technicians based in the Yukon, NWT and BC
  • Manage recovery and rescheduling of flight and maintenance schedules when impacted by weather delays, cancellations and unforeseen mechanical failures
  • Responsible for maintaining the business unit’s HSE program, operating certificates and ensuring training and education are kept current for power generation technicians in order to maintain contract obligations
  • Provide scheduling for daily fixed wing and helicopter operations with more than two dozen flight operators throughout the Arctic and Sub-Arctic regions
  • This includes but is not limited to booking flights on air carriers for ATCO and NWTEL employees for travel to communities and remote tower sites, arranging transportation and accommodation and monitoring site alarms, tower site failures and fuel consumption rates
  • A key role is to be able to assess and implement a plan of action when a remote tower site experiences a mechanical or power failure, often without knowing the cause or having any information on what the problem might be. It is critical to have a working knowledge of the tower site and available resources nearby to ensure that any downtime is kept to a minimum
  • Northern communities, private mine sites and emergency services rely heavily on these towers and need to keep them functional
  • Ensuring that maintenance operations on tower sites are conducted safely and within Transport Canada air carrier operating guidelines as well as NWTel and Bell Canada policies and procedures
  • Provide planning and implementation development to improve new or existing policies and procedures to manage cost inflation month over month and year over year
  • Empowered employees to take ownership of their responsibilities, leading to increased accountability and improved performance outcomes
  • As part of a two-person management team, provided direct input and recommendations to ATCO Frontec, Bell Canada and Northwestel as a subject matter expert on rotary-wing operations and Transport Canada aviation regulations when developing a corporate Aerial Work Safety Policy
