Accomplishments

Guest Speaker at the National Shoppers Drug Mart Convention in Spring of 2002

  • In the spring of 2002, Glen Murphy the CEO of Shoppers Drug Mart, visited my store and the Londonderry Mall location. Glen Murphy was very impressed with the condition of my store and asked if I would be a Guest Speaker at the National Shoppers Drug Mart Convention in Toronto. I was honored to present to my peers at 8 separate meetings over the course of 2 days. In total I presented to approximately 1800 people.

Juvenile Diabetes Captain

  • I was the store captain for the Juvenile Diabetes Fund raising campaign for 10 years. I am proud to say that on our first year we were the number one store in the entire Shoppers Drug Mart chain for raising the most money on two fronts, both in the collection of donations at store level and the "Walk for the Cure"

Set up the first Large format Shoppers Drug Mart in Edmonton

  • In September of 2002 I was approached by corporate head office by request of the CEO Glen Murphy to take up the challenge of setting up the first Large Format Shoppers Drug Mart in Edmonton. These new stores involved the addition of Grocery Sections and Photo-Labs. I was honored to be tasked with this endeavor, which involved the merger of two old stores into one new location. This posed a real challenge due to the fact we were dealing with both the Human Resources and two complete stores of inventory which needed to be processed through our store which had already been filled for depth on the shelves.

Coach for the Lead Program

  • I successfully coached 4 Front Store Management Candidates through the new Lead Training program with Shoppers Drug Mart. This process involved identifying candidates and going through the entire program to achieve the level of Front Store Manager in any Shoppers Drug Mart.

Involvement in the Work Experience Programs

  • Since my early days with Shoppers Drug Mart, I began to involve myself with the Work Experience programs through-out Edmonton. I helped develop many individuals learn new skills which hopefully opened doors for them in future employment situations. When possible I would try to find permanent placements in my own stores. Many of the people I hired through these programs are still working for Shoppers Drug Mart. I found this work to be very rewarding. I enjoyed making connections with people who may be overlooked and tried to developed skills which allowed them to flourish.

VFR Pilot Training

  • I completed the ground school training for my Pilot course. I have plans to finish my hours in the air to pass my Private Pilots License. I would also like to buy a plane in the future.
