Board of Directors Female Director Wolves Lacrosse Association & Female Director Metro Minor Lacrosse, Halifax
April 2019-Present
In this role I focus my energy on female box lacrosse recruitment and retention while working with both the Wolves Lacrosse Association and Metro Minor Lacrosse League as the Female Director. In this role I utilize my marketing and design expertise to develop social media campaigns, marketing materials and program materials to help with recruitment and retention efforts to ensure female players in Nova Scotia have equal opportunities to excel, compete and succeed in Sports. Recruitment initiatives have proven successful as enrollment has doubled over 2017 for female players with a record number in all age groups from 8U through to 21U. Outside of this role I also run the NS Sirens program, a Select box lacrosse program in Nova Scotia focused on female athletes. With the rapid growth of the female game this program provides development opportunities for those players who have an interest in fostering their skills, and potentially representing Nova Scotia in the future at both Nationals and Canada Games. Program Driver - Halifax Thunderbirds Inclusion & Empowerment Program
The intention of this Inclusion & Empowerment Program is to bring together stakeholders from marginalized groups in Mi'kma'ki, identified as: First Nation, African Canadian, Acadian (French), Female & Other Marginalized Community Groups; ultimately introducing, or in some
cases, re-introducing them to the Creator's game of Lacrosse (Tuwa'tmik). Within each identified group our hope is to create a more supportive and welcoming environment for potential athletes, while utilizing storytelling, culture sharing, symbolism, customary engagement and other educational opportunities, as a source of genuine inclusivity. We intend to reach out to as many potential stakeholders as possible to see how the vehicle of lacrosse, combined with our collective resources (both financial and otherwise), can be utilized by each respective community to generate the capacity for sustainable lacrosse and further community development. Developing local leadership is at the forefront of our approach.
Program drivers are the Halifax Thunderbirds, Turtle Island Lacrosse and the Indigenous Players Lacrosse Association (IPLA) both not-for-profit grassroots lacrosse organizations. Other partners are the Black Lacrosse Alliance and the Nova Scotia Sirens Female Lacrosse Program.
We have spent several months focused on building relationships in the identified communities and have now established a formal working committee with several representatives from each community, meeting on a monthly basis to share stories and continue to develop the strategic direction of the program.
