Motivated to learn more about SATCOM and to provide continuity to the SATCOM Operations Centre to ensure the future success of the organization and the Canadian Armed Forces.
As a member of the SATCOM Planning Cell within the SOC, I was mainly responsible for the planning and operation of the AEHF missions, whilst also managing WGS missions through EITSM.
In the time I have been a SATCOM Planner, I have successfully planned AEHF missions, worked through the EITSM processes to get missions started and worked through any troubleshooting a mission requires for their SATCOM link to be established.
As a SATCOM Supervisor I was responsible for the management of the SOC inboxes on both high and low side, the management of the SOC EITSM Operator box in EITSM, the management of the SATCOM Operators and the General Dynamic's MGAS Operator.
While working as a SATCOM Supervisor, I was successful in managing the floor on a day-to-day basis which ensured that the SOC workflow was not impeded and all paperwork was processed in a timely manner allowing for the end user to receive their SATCOM assets with no hassle.
As a Signals Operator working at 2PPCLI Reconnaissance Platoon, I was responsible for the management, training and operation of all signals assets.
Whilst I was the Signals Operator for the Reconnaissance Platoon, I taught several courses on the operation of radio equipment, cryptopgrahic equipment and antenna theory, allowing for the members on course to operate radios and improvised equipment in austere conditions.
I was also responsible for the management of all signals equipment for the platoon, ensuring it's operability during major exercises and allowing for C2 to be established for the Platoon Commander and relaying of information back to the HQ element.
As a Signals Operator working out of Signals Platoon in 2PPCLI, I was responsible for the setup, teardown and operation of the Radio and Cryptography equipment within the HQ element.
During major exercises in Wainwright and Shilo, I operated and maintained the Command Post signals equipment to ensure that our Battalion assets kept proper communications back to the CO.
I was also deployed overseas to Operation Unifier in Ukraine with C-Coy, 8 Platoon 2 PPCLI as a Platoon Signaller and was responsible for the daily operations of platoon assets and any eduction for the Ukrainians required on Radio Theory, the operation of radio equipment and construction of improvised equipment for austere conditions.
My first years as a Signal Operator were mostly concerned with attaining knowledge in the field of signals, as well as the operation of the equipment that comes in the Signals World. I completed my BMQ and DP1.0 in this timeframe and took my first steps into the world of signals. This time in the reserves prepared me for the transition to the Regular Forces.
