First hand experience in saving lives

  • My aunt had heat stroke recently when on vacation, my mom and I jumped straight into action, following certain steps before the EMTS on the phone instructed us to do so since she is a registered nurse and I am learning under her while going into college. My aunt had felt sick the days before so we gave her liquid IV and IV packets however we didn’t know she was type 2 diabetic. Now I have more awareness on how to care for people based on their medical history and conditions
  • When I was 12 visiting my father in a foreign country Yokosuka Japan (he is in the navy and deployed in a small rural Japanese town) my father had a minor stroke in the morning and could not walk straight, so I convinced him for hours to go to the hospital instead of taking a nap because I knew something was wrong. It saved his life but perennially affected him, I was stuck at home for a week with no one building my independence and my importance on safety.
  • When I was 8 years old my family used to throw pool parties, at sunset the kids would go inside but my baby cousin still wanted to play, she ended up slipping into the deep end of the pool and screamed for help, everyone was inside besides my cousin and I so my cousin rushed to tell a family member as I dived into the pool with limited swimming experience, she was heavy but I pushed her to the ledge of the pool using my body as a platform so when the parents came they could drag her out and help her vomit the water out of her. She survived and I taught her how to swim for a month, she is now in her first year of high school.
