My name is Brittany Clarke. I have fourteen years of experience as an early childhood educator, primarily within the YMCA of Hamilton, Burlington, and Brantford. I began my career as a classroom educator, developing a variety of activities aligned with the Play to Learn and Pedagogy curricula, in accordance with the ELECT document. I later advanced to a managerial role overseeing a childcare program. During this time, I realized I miss direct classroom engagement, which led me to accept a casual early childhood educator position within the Grand Erie District School Board, with the goal of obtaining full time. Since January 2025, I have been a member of the board, participating in multiple school settings and continuing to develop my skills as an early childhood professional.
I am currently employed as a casual Designated Early Childhood Educator (DECE), working across multiple schools as a substitute educator. My responsibilities include supporting kindergarten classrooms by filling in for the designated DECE, following established routines and instructional notes provided for supply staff. I assist in facilitating lessons, supervise students, and collaborate effectively with the Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT) and other staff members to ensure a positive and productive learning environment.
I served as a Manager at Our Lady of Providence YMCA Childcare, overseeing a team of 15 staff members across full-day childcare and school-age programs. My responsibilities included staff scheduling, curriculum implementation (Play to Learn), and maintaining effective communication with families to ensure a collaborative partnership between the center and the families we served.
I supervised a team of nine staff members at a full-day childcare center, fostering effective communication between educators and families, implementing our play-to-learn curriculum, and ensuring compliance with the standards set by the Ministry of Education.
