I preform a wide variety of duties to support and maintain the foundation of the credit union's BSA/AML Program. Emphasis is on investigating financial activity to identify potential money laundering and/or other financial crimes, filing required reports, providing staff with support related to BSA, CIP, OFAC, and suspicious activity documenting ongoing compliance efforts, and preforming other processes as needed to maintain an effective program. I also act at the Subject Matter Expert for the credit union's BSA/AML Program and, in addition to the above, works with the assigned Supervisor/Manager to maintain and enhance the Program and ensure its ongoing effectiveness.


  • Reviews transaction monitoring reports and alerts generated by software to identify potential money laundering, financial crimes, and other suspicious financial activity.
  • Researches high risk activity using internal information and data available from other sources, such as the internet and third parties. Documents results and takes action as appropriate for the situation.
  • Communicates with members by phone and in writing to investigate or develop an understanding of transaction patterns.
  • Provides operational support to branch and back office staff so that they can assist members and handle situations in accordance with credit union policies/procedures and regulations.
  • Prepares complete and timely Suspicious Activity Reports and Currency Transaction Reports for filing with government agencies.
  • Compares government list of "persons of interest" (314a list) to credit union records to verify that the credit union has not participated in transactions with persons on the list.
  • Provides training to staff one-on-one and/or small groups.
  • Ensures files are backed-up so that they are retained for the required record retention period.
  • Develops and delivers BSA/AML training including annual training to staff and management as directed, and training needed to correct patterns of errors or deficiencies.
  • Monitors status of work to ensure BSA/AML cases are worked timely and that all CTRs, SARs, and other BSA reports are filed timely and accurately.
  • Ensures that the procedure manual is complete, accurate, and current.
  • Preforms an annual, enterprise wide BSA/AML risk assessment in collaboration with the Supervisor/Manager and or BSA Officer.
  • Maintains an advanced understanding of BSA/AML regulatory requirements, associated operational procedures, and transaction monitoring systems. Acts as the Subject Matter Expert completing research as needed and providing staff with information and mentoring.
  • Assists with the gathering of documents and reports for audits and exams.
  • May monitor and direct workflow in assigned supervisor's absence.
