Level II/III NICU – Foothills Medical Centre

• Deliver high-acuity care to extremely premature and critically ill neonates (22+ weeks), requiring continuous assessment and rapid clinical decision-making.
• Manage 1:1 and 1:2 patient assignments in a Level III NICU, including infants requiring mechanical ventilation, BiPAP/SiPAP, CPAP, HFNC, and advanced oxygen therapy.
• Perform and monitor UAC, UVC, and PICC line management; administer medications including inotropes and vasopressors, TPN/lipids, and high-risk neonatal infusions.
• Support infants with complex needs including PDA management, hemodynamic instability, respiratory failure, infection, and prematurity-related complications.
• Partner with interdisciplinary teams during daily rounds, contributing to evidence-informed plans of care and advocating for developmentally appropriate interventions.
• Provide compassionate support and education to families navigating complex diagnoses and prolonged NICU admissions.

Unit 41 Pediatric Unit and Clinic – Peter Lougheed Centre

• Deliver nursing care to acute and chronic pediatric patients from infancy through adolescence with diverse medical, surgical, and mental health needs.
• Manage assignments of 4+ patients requiring oxygen therapy, peripheral IV insertion, PICC line care, continuous monitoring, symptom management, and family-centered support.
• Provide pre- and post-operative care, implement asthma pathway protocols, and care for children with complex chronic conditions.
• Assess and support pediatric patients presenting with mental health concerns using trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate approaches.
• Administer and document medications, monitor and interpret laboratory results, and provide education to families regarding treatment plans, home care, and follow-up needs.
• Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, and allied health professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans aligned with patient needs and unit standards.

Pediatric Clinic / Day Medicine / IV Therapy Experience

• Support Pediatric Day Medicine and IV Therapy services, including fever and follow-up clinics, hydration therapy, and medication infusions.
• Provide ongoing assessment, monitoring, treatment support, and family education in ambulatory pediatric clinic settings.
• Coordinate care and follow-up needs to support safe transitions between clinic, hospital, and home.

Level II NICU – Peter Lougheed Centre
Level II NICU – South Health Campus

• Provide specialized nursing care to premature and critically ill neonates (32+ weeks) requiring stabilization, continuous monitoring, and family-centred support.
• Manage 3+ patient assignments in a Level II NICU, performing comprehensive assessments and interpreting changes in clinical status.
• Operate and monitor specialized neonatal equipment, including cardiac and oxygen saturation monitors, CPAP/HFNC systems, incubators, phototherapy, and thermoregulation devices.
• Initiate and maintain peripheral IVs; administer IV medications; manage UVCs under sterile protocols; complete blood work and specimen collection.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (RTs, neonatologists, lactation consultants, social work) to coordinate individualized plans of care.
• Provide developmentally sensitive parent education on infant cues, feeding readiness, care techniques, and discharge preparation.
