I know and have worked for Sandy Meyers, and I know just about everyone that's involved with Doore School. My reason for applying is to help fill the very large void that Sandy is leaving and to bring all my years of experience to help the Doore School be successful with ongoing efforts and build the future.
I have worked for Stanford for almost 41 years, and during that time, I have worked in various organizations and structures that handled all aspects of facility management, as well as operations. When I was hired, I had my own Stanford construction team with electricians, plumber, carpenters, painter and Forman. I both design lab and office buildouts, but I also had it built by the in-house team. Depending on the project, I would also contract out the design-build project with outside general contractors. In addition to this role, I also had property, building management, and health and safety for the School of Engineering. Over the years, the organization changed, and we began a project called Near-West Campus, which was a redevelopment of what is now SEQ. Near-west Campus shutdown and there was a new project called SEQ 1.During this time, I was transferred to the new zone management structure, and for a number of reasons, my construction team was laid off, and I was running all projects using outside contractors.. Designing labs, as well as all aspects of building maintenance. I moved from the Fac Ops organization to DPM and ran projects across the university, including the School of Medicine, Earth Science, and H&S. Once SEQ 2 started, I was asked to come back to the School of Engineering and work with Sandy on the overall project, mostly supporting the design of the interiors of the buildings. I currently run multiple projects for the SoE, DoR, and SoM, as well as deal with many other issues in Health and Safety and building maintenance.
Before coming to Stanford, I was at Harvard University Bio Labs, designing impact drawings for the renovation of the 1932 Bio Labs building, as well as building operations. I had a short stint at Lockheed and designed the cleanroom for the Hubble Space Telescope, along with other projects, but when a job at Stanford opened up, I made the change. At Stanford, I have completed over 500 projects and designed and built every faculty in the School of Engineering once and several twice or more.
