S) Scenario: During my internship at Dacheng Law Firm, I supported the Ningbo Seaport Compliance Project. This project involved extensive and complex research into legal precedents, regulatory documents, and contractual documents, which served as the foundation for the team's legal argumentation and strategy development.
(T) Task: My core responsibility was to independently oversee the full-process legal intelligence retrieval, analysis, and knowledge integration required for this project. I needed to quickly and accurately extract valid information supporting the core dispute points of the case from this complex legal information and organize it for efficient use by the legal team.
(A) Action: To address this challenge, I took the following actions:
Strategy Design: Based on my understanding of the disputed issues in the case, I designed a systematic search strategy, utilizing advanced Boolean logic operators and metadata fields from professional databases such as Westlaw and LexisNexis for precise search results.
Execution and Processing: I retrieved, downloaded, and preliminarily screened over 800 legal documents. Faced with unstructured information, I went beyond simply collecting it and instead conducted in-depth content extraction of high-value documents, including summarizing the essence of decisions, marking legal applicability, and extracting core arguments.
Knowledge Organization and Presentation: I used Microsoft SharePoint to build a structured project knowledge base. I established a tagging system for all documents based on metadata (such as case cause, court, level of validity, and relevant legal provisions), enabling efficient classification and association of information, significantly improving its discoverability and usability.
(R) Results: My work achieved the following results:
Efficiency Improvement: I reduced the team's average legal research time by approximately 40%. By optimizing search strategies and knowledge bases, I significantly improved the recall and precision of information retrieval.
Decision Support: The knowledge summaries and compilation reports I created provided direct and effective information support to my partner lawyers in drafting key legal memoranda and developing litigation/transaction strategies, earning positive feedback from the team's lawyers.
Ability demonstrated: This project not only honed my professional ability to handle complex information needs and conduct knowledge governance, but also allowed me to deeply appreciate the tremendous application value and creativity of information science methodology in the vertical field of law.
