As one of the lead team members of the Alberta Wildfire Mapping Team, I oversee and coordinate a group of GIS professionals responsible for providing real-time, accurate geospatial data critical to wildfire response efforts across the province. Working on Type 1 wildfires, I ensure that our team delivers precise mapping and information to support on-the-ground operations, decision-making, and resource allocation.

• Lead and mentor a team of GIS analysts, ensuring smooth operations, timely delivery of data, and continuous professional development.
• Manage the creation, validation, and distribution of geospatial data products for wildfire response, including map outputs, geodatabases, and real-time situational awareness layers.
• Collaborate closely with wildfire incident commanders, emergency response teams, and provincial agencies to ensure mapping products meet operational needs.
• Utilize cutting-edge GIS technologies, including satellite imagery, drones, and live data feeds, to create up-to-date and accurate fire perimeters, evacuation zones, and infrastructure assessments.
• Implement workflow optimizations that enhance the speed and accuracy of data collection, processing, and dissemination during active wildfire events.
• Act as a liaison between the GIS team and other departments, ensuring clear communication and the effective exchange of geospatial data to support wildfire management and strategic planning.
• Provide decision-makers with the essential data they need to manage resources, allocate firefighting efforts, and ensure public safety.

Through strong leadership, technical expertise, and collaboration with key stakeholders, I contribute to the successful management and mitigation of wildfire threats, helping safeguard Alberta’s communities and natural resources.
