Inspector/Case Manager

  • Working under the direction of the Deputy Chief of Police, the Inspector/Case Manager has provided supervisory assistance to the Deputy Chief of Police of Operations and regularly fulfils the duties and responsibilities of the Deputy Chief in his absence
  • Within this leadership role, has provided effective operational oversight and guidance, support and mentorship to the Police Service’s non-commissioned officers, and oversight and quality assurance on all departmental investigative files
  • The Inspector/case manager is the third person in charge within the command structure of New Glasgow Regional Police.
  • Oversee the operations of a team of 8 non-commissioned officers and 20 Constables, along with 10 civilian staff members, a total staff complement of 38 across the Police Service’s 4 Patrol units, Court Operations, Criminal Records, Communications Centre, and Lock-up facility.
  • Development and implementation of 2 new internet based scheduling programs which has improved the allocation of human resources, through effective leave planning, the scheduling of Court appearances, and special operational events
  • This enhanced resource management ensured that operational effectiveness is maintained and allows an improved work/life balance which has improved employee wellness.
  • Enhanced public safety and service delivery by reconfiguring the physical location and structure of the Communications Centre and Criminal Records sections, allowing for the re-distribution of roles and responsibilities of the civilian staff in both departments
  • This reconfiguration changed the workflow process of both units and permitted the Communications Centre staff to focus attention on core job functions with fewer distractions from additional operational/administrative taskings.
  • Development, review and revision of departmental policies and procedures to align with provincial best practices.
  • Development and implementation of a competency-based employee performance appraisal evaluation process.
  • Revision and development of a competency-based interview process within the current promotional routines for sworn members and the hiring procedure for civilian staff.
  • Developed and implemented a departmental employee recognition program which recognized extraordinary achievements of all employees, and members of the public

  • Had direct supervision over Uniform Patrol, Traffic, Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit, Forensic Identification, Police Dog Service, Emergency Response Team, Community Policing, Major Crime Unit, and School Resource
  • Ensured effective operational response, strategic and business continuity planning, and external stakeholder management.
  • Oversee operations of a team of 12 non-commissioned officers and 31 Constables, along with 12 civilian staff members, a total staff complement of 38 across the Police Service’s 11 Sections and Lock-up facility.
  • Responsible for employee scheduling for all sections of the Police Service striving to maintain operational effectiveness while also balancing financial budgetary considerations.
  • Managed the in-service development and delivery of all in-service training for sworn and civilian members.
  • Ensured that operational planning was employed using the principles of ICS, ICIR, and Critical Incident Response.

  • Responsible for the day-to-day policing activities of the Uniform Platoon, with the emphasis on supervisory duties to ensure the prompt, professional and appropriate service is provided to the client base.
  • Maintaining quality control of all investigations on the Platoon level ensuring that the investigations are conducted in an ethical and accountable manner, and in compliance with standard investigative techniques, standard operating procedures of the Department of Justice of Nova Scotia and the rules and regulations of NGRP.
