I am entering my 3rd year as a University of Alberta student.
I was recruited for this position while I was employed as a bartender at a different establishment. The manager learned of my skills through a relative. After observing my performance for five minutes, she inquired if I would be interested in joining the team at Black Knight rather than continuing at my current bar. You are welcome to inquire about any additional questions during our interview.
I originally started as a substitute for all YK1 schools in Yellowknife; however, I developed a strong connection with the students at one particular school, which led them to request that I remain there. At the conclusion of the school year, I was offered the opportunity to sign a full-year contract for the following year to become an educational assistant for their school.
I had moved to Edmonton in 2021 and had no prior liquor sales experience and was only 18 years of age. I acquired the job very soon after moving to Edmonton. I started as a server and within a month and a half became a bartender as well.
This bar is located on Whyte Avenue, one of the busiest streets in Edmonton, and Blues on Whyte was easily one of the most popular bars in Edmonton. I have learned so many skills, tips, tricks and crucial life lessons working here.
I did not quit or anything of the sort, just had to move back up North. You are welcome to inquire about any additional questions during our interview.
I started off as a cashier, retail, and customer service over 4 years ago, but soon branched out to the cafe, deli (cheeses and meats), working on the floor, receiving and handling shipments, and produce. Through my 4 years of working at a grocery store and cafe, I have learned almost all the skills that are needed to successfully work in environments for retail, food service, customer service, and cleaning . The reason for my leave was for university in Edmonton
- Operated cash register for cash, check, credit card, and refund transactions with very minimal mistakes and very efficiently.
- Trained new team members on POS system operation, customer service strategies and sales, as well as cafe training and produce training.
- Restocked, arranged and organized merchandise in front lanes to drive product sales.
- Answered questions about store policies and concerns to support positive customer experiences.
- Costumers often complimented on my "hard work" and my "pleasant attitude"
I volunteered to help my mother with her daycare job most days after school, and most days off school during summer breaks, Christmas breaks, and March Breaks. My mother struggled with speaking English at the time and I allowed her to have an easier work experience.
I gave out meals to the children, played with them, read to them, put them to sleep, helped potty-train, learn basic skills like shapes, ABCs, how to talk properly, etc.
