Summary

I am a dedicated and resilient individual pursuing a lifelong career in the fire service. With a strong commitment to excellence, continuous learning, and community service, I thrive in high-pressure, fast-paced environments. My background as a professional action sports athlete has honed my adaptability, discipline, and ability to perform under intense conditions. Over the past 20 years, I have achieved significant milestones, including earning three X Games medals, setting three Guinness World Records, and competing as an athlete on the British Cycling Olympic team. Through these experiences, I have developed exceptional resilience, work ethic, and determination. I am now eager to apply these qualities to a career in firefighting, where I can grow professionally while serving and protecting my community.

Work History

BMX Team Leader

Robert Castillo’s BMX Freestyle Team
06.2022 - Current
  • I manage a team of professional BMX athletes who travel across Southern California, showcasing an action-packed BMX stunt show. Performances range from, but are not limited to, educational school assemblies, community and state fairs, as well as corporate and sporting events.
  • My main role, alongside riding, is to announce, ride, and commentate throughout the shows, educating the audience about bike safety, healthy habits, goal setting, and hard work. Each show is tailored specifically to the viewers and can lean heavily on a particular theme, like anti-drug for Red Ribbon Week, anti-bullying, etc.
  • Alongside the show coordination, I haul the 20-ft trailer, coordinating setup and strike on-site also. Always maintaining a professional work ethic, and ensuring health and safety standards are met.

Professional BMX Athlete

Self Employed Athlete
01.2004 - Current
  • I have been a professional BMX athlete and have traveled across the globe, competing at the international level for the past 18 years.
  • I always maintain peak physical conditioning, which has allowed the longevity of my career.
  • I have podiums from prestigious action sports contests, including X Games, Dew Tour, Fise, and The Worlds.
  • I thrive under pressure and in fast-paced environments, not allowing the stress or adrenaline to cloud judgment or focus.

BMX Team Athlete

British Cycling Olympic BMX Team
01.2017 - 01.2022
  • As a part of the British Cycling Olympic Qualifying Team, I traveled globally to partake in UCI-sanctioned BMX events to earn points for the United Kingdom, forging the path for the squad to be selected for the 2021 Olympics.
  • Although BMX is an individual sport, I had to work with the team, ensuring that, although sometimes decisions were made that did not play into my best interest, they worked for the goals the UK team set out to achieve. This initially was something that I thought would hinder my athleticism; however, it taught me a lot about my character and highlighted not only my passion for individual success, but also the team's.
  • This was a strenuous program that pushed my mental and physical fitness. Lots of high-intensity training camps, meal preparation, isolated training, competitions, and expectations.
