I held the position I'm seeking now for some years before shut-down for renovation. I'm a known entity and, from the response and feedback I've had from staff and customers alike whilst volunteering, I would be welcomed back as the proper cook. I was recommended to apply for this position by the cashier and the present cook who's about to leave.
I'm proud of the fact that I have come up with numerous ways to avoid food wastage, all of which have been met with strong approval. (Ask members about 'bread and butter pudding'.)
As for being appreciated as a cook, an anecdote: last week a customer sidled up to me and asked if I was going to make the soup again. I told him no, I wasn't allowed to cook as a volunteer, I've only done it when the cook wasn't in and no one was looking!
He lowered his voice. "Is anyone looking today?" he asked. (David Alfaro)
I really care about the Flower City Seniors' Centre and the people who use it, having been a member for about 17 years.
