• Develop and organize a variety of recreational programs and activities tailored to residents' interests, abilities, and needs.
• Encourage participation in programs through effective communication and personalized invitations.
• Maintain accurate records of activity schedules, attendance, and resident progress.
• Ensure activities are conducted safely, addressing any accessibility concerns.
• Adhere to all policies, procedures, and safety standards within the residence.

I completed my PSW Level 2 placement at Royal Ottawa Place, a long-term care facility affiliated with The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre.

• Assisted residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and oral hygiene
• Monitor and support nutrition by assisting with feeding and meal setup
• Supported residents with mobility needs using proper transfer techniques (e.g., mechanical lifts, transfer belts)
• Provided emotional support and reassurance to residents with depression, dementia, or psychiatric conditions
• Observed and reported changes in residents' physical or mental condition to nursing staff

I completed my PSW Level 1 placement at St. Patrick’s home in Ottawa, where I performed the following main duties and responsibilities.

• Assisted with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and feeding.
• Supported safe mobility and transfers using wheelchairs, walkers, and mechanical lifts
• Maintained resident dignity, privacy, and confidentiality always
• Followed Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) protocols and proper hand hygiene
• Collaborated with RPNs, RNs, and other PSWs as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team
• Practiced safe body mechanics and proper lifting techniques
• Adapted communication to meet the needs of residents with hearing or cognitive impairments
• Recognized and responded to emergency situations appropriately
