Summary

Motivated researcher with a strong background in neuroscience, molecular biology, and quantitative research. Experienced in independent and course-based research, including a project on light/dark preferences in zebrafish, and experience-dependent inter-rater reliability in the manual behavior coding of zebrafish. Proficient in PCR, western blotting, gel electrophoresis, and CRISPR. Skilled in scientific writing through detailed lab reports and literature reviews, with a focus on clearly communicating complex data. Eager to apply and expand these abilities in a healthcare setting.

Work History

Independent Research Project

Gerlai Lab
09.2024 - Current
  • Determining Light/Dark Preferences in Danio rerio (Zebrafish). By comparing the effects of black to white (grayscale) gradient paper and low to high light intensity (lux) in various patterns, the experiment discerns between preferences for the level of illumination and background shade, both of which are stimuli perceived by zebrafish. It addresses the gap in research where both stimuli are being utilized in light/dark paradigms, as if they are perceived the same, which is not yet confirmed.

Independent Research Project

Gerlai Lab
01.2025 - 04.2025
  • Inter/Intra-Tester Reliability in Zebrafish: Observational vs. Video Tracking. A collaborative study examined inter- and intra-rater reliability in automated behavior coding (EthoVision) and manual behavior coding (Observer XT). My research focused on how observer experience affects inter-rater reliability using Observer XT. Prior studies suggest reliability varies by behavior, depending on how clearly behaviors are defined. This study highlights how training, experience, and behavioral complexity influence inter-rater reliability in manually coding zebrafish behavior, a model organism with subtle and complex behaviors.
