I was a supervisor for a team of Community Officers. Part of our duties include engaging with members of the homeless community and looking for resources for them. Providing them with locations to shelters and where meals are served. I wrote detailed narrative reports for use in investigations. Another part of my role as a supervisor is attending biweekly meetings and completing training sessions when asked to, to improve skills and learn new policies and procedures. I respond and delegate calls relayed from our dispatchers that pertain to complaints from the community such as social issues, homeless encampments, needle pick ups, noise complaints and parking violations. I also conduct patrols and work along side other agencies when we need assistance. i addressed public questions, complaints and requests and provided necessary assistance. In this role we as a team responded to any non-emergencies as instructed and with utmost efficiency. Conducted regular safety patrols at schools and in parks throughout the day and night to identify potential hazards and prevent accidents and injuries. As a supervisor i provided guidance and resources to employees to maintain safety procedures and enhance protection as well as communicated safety performance and progress to management to provide up to date information on the staff when needed.
I traveled to Ottawa to train for 8 weeks to become an Explosive Detection Dog Handler. While I was there, I began training different qualities into my K-9 that was assigned to me such as; Different indications when on odors, distractions and obedience.
I handled over 15 different detection dogs ranging from German Sheppard's, Malinos, German short haired Pointers and Labrador Retrievers. i was paired with one for the last 5 months. I am open and honest to all training methods and prefer positive reinforcement training. I have reached goals working out negative behaviors, and reinforcing positive behaviors and realize the importance of consistency. I have learned to read canine behavior as well as quick changes in behavior and body language. I have worked closely with anxious, dog/people reactive canines. I have worked with very driven working dogs, as well as personal pets. I have worked closely with dog trainers from the Netherlands, France, Israel, and across North America
While working at Southeast Regional Correctional Centre (SRCC), I practiced communication skills on a day-to-day basis and am capable at making decisions quickly while working under pressure. I am flexible. I worked with very diverse clients. During my regular duties as a Correctional Officer, I conducted 30-minute rounds. On my rounds I made sure all clients are accounted for and healthy. I also searched and found contraband and investigated information about clients breaching security. I've wrote detailed reports and made living unit notes on clients regularly. I followed unit routine and policies and procedures. I use tactical considerations on a daily basis as I worked in a open concept institution. I responded to emergency codes and de-escalated situations. I followed the proper chain of command and report to my supervisor on duty. I took initiative and was appointed to train and supervise new officers at the institution. During the pandemic I was asked to work on the NS-NB border in Aulac screening cars for the Department of Public Safety when I was not working at the institution on my regular days. I was also posted working at the Moncton Airport screening passengers on incoming flights for COVID-19.
