Registered Nurse since 2014. I have had opportunities to provide direct nursing care within multiple different settings and different cities. I spent the first four and half years nursing at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre, where I provided nursing care in the acute settings. I gained experience working on medical units that served patients with oncology, respiratory and nephrology challenges. I had spent over four years, gathering tremendous experience in the acute care setting and increase my skillset. I took these skills with me to my next nursing job at The Ottawa Hospital. I spent one and a half years working in a Geriatric Rehabilitation Unit where I gained valuable experience working with older age populations. I had an incredible experience working and living in Ottawa, however, Thunder Bay is home and in February 2020, I returned back to my hometown of Thunder Bay, and accepted my first nursing job in the mental health field where I continue to be employed. Working for the First Place Clinic & Regional Resource Centre (Canadian Mental Health association - Thunder Bay), I have been working with clients experiencing a first episode psychosis. During this time, I have learned to work with predominantly with youth challenged with psychosis and many secondary challenges such as depression, anxiety and substance use disorders. I continue to provide health lifestyle education to individuals and group settings. I supported the agency in reopening their Safe Bed program, which entails mental and physical assessments on clients admitted to the program for a variety of challenges, and reporting them to primary care providers and collaborating on treatment plans. I continue to be eager in expanding my nursing knowledge and skills and so that is why I believe I would be a good asset as a nurse practitioner, and committing to the Thunder Bay region.
