Learning about love and relationships
My name is Andra Escobar, and I am a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) approaching the completion of my internship, with over 350 hours of direct and indirect client experience. I am pursuing my studies at Yorkville University in the Master of Arts Counselling Psychology (MACP) program. I am eager to apply to your practice, particularly because of your focus on couples and marriage therapy, which aligns with my passion. In addition to my master's degree, I am enrolled in the Relational Institute led by Terry Real. This program emphasizes enhancing relationships by addressing interpersonal dynamics, especially in intimate partnerships. The two-hour weekly course has equipped me with valuable skills that I have been integrating into my current client caseload. I work in a hybrid model, providing both virtual and in-person sessions, and I am currently seeing a couple with whom I have a long-term therapeutic relationship. Although I will be working part-time as an associate at my current fully virtual internship in Barrie, I live in downtown Toronto and am seeking a second part-time position at a nearby clinic that provides in-person sessions, which I am particularly passionate about.
My therapeutic approach combines psychodynamic, strength-based, and person-centered, with a strong emphasis on fostering therapeutic relationships over time. My niche, as outlined on my Psychology Today profile, is in narcissistic abuse recovery, where I’ve had the opportunity to work with clients who have faced challenges in various relationships, including those with parents, siblings, and romantic partners. My ultimate goal is to become a skilled couple's therapist, with plans to pursue additional specialization in pre-marital therapy as I gain more experience.
With a warm, authentic, and optimistic personality, I am optimistic that my approach will resonate with clients at your practice. One of my proudest achievements is maintaining a consistent caseload of clients that I’ve successfully worked with since I started in May 2024. Another accomplishment this year is writing a blog that was published on our practice’s website, reflecting on my experience working within my niche. I am eager for the opportunity to contribute to your clinic while continuing to learn and grow. Thank you for considering my application, and I look forward to the possibility of discussing how I can be a valuable part of your team.
