Maintains Classification qualifications and certifications as required by the YMCA and provincial standards.  To maintain a professional image ensuring confidentiality, discretion, initiative, flexibility and a positive role model for children, parents and co-workers.  Use a variety of teaching techniques that include, but are not limited to, modelling, observing, questioning, demonstrating, and reinforcing.  To be aware of the centre’s policies and procedure and communicate them to others.  To act in a supervisory way if requested and to work collaboratively as a team.  To supervise children at all times.  To plan the curriculum in accordance with the goals and objectives of the centre to foster maximum development for each child’s potential and growth.  To monitor and record individual children’s progress through daily observation and development evaluations.  Responsible for the physical, social, emotional, affective and cognitive development of the children in the centre.  To administer and record all children’s medication.  To contribute to the overall appearance, resources and learning environment of the centre. Ensuring our spaces are clean and safe for all.  To maintain contact with all the children to meet their needs – security, protection, affection, discipline, stimulation, warmth and comfort; to respect each child’s abilities and provide unconditional acceptance of him/her.  Listens to and respond to children’s needs which includes diapering and assisting children with toileting.  Identifies the indicators of abuse and is prepared to report signs of child abuse to the Child Protection Services. Adheres to work schedule to ensure program stays within ratio and provides required adequate notice to supervisor regarding unexpected scheduling changes.  To develop a relationship with families and meet their needs of comfort, security, warmth and acceptance as a part of the center.  To maintain physical and mental health suitable for contact with young children.  Engaged in physical activities to support children's needs such as lifting and assisting during play. ie. standing for long period of time, kneeling, picking up children  Maintain current First Aid and CPR certification.  Participate in the YMCA of Southwest Nova Scotia OH&S Committee and follow the OH&S policies set forth by the association.  Adherence to the YMCA Child Safeguarding Policies and Procedures.  Carry out any additional duties by the Director.
