A local retired teacher had come to emc for an abnormal heart condition. She was afraid and did not know what to expect. The cardiologist had started a new medication for her, I checked her vital signs and noted the heart rate along with the pt blood pressure were lower than usual. I called the cardiologist about the medication administration he told me to go ahead and give it. Before I was going to give the med I rechecked the vitals. Still the pressures and heart rate where abnormally low. I called the doctor again and then he instructed me to hold the med. I did discuss with the patient about her having rights as a patient. She felt more at ease after our discussion that she was not afraid any more. I kept advocating for her because I treat all my patients as if they are family, I truly care about my patients.
