My path to studying counseling has been winding and unusual. Beginning with a bachelors degree in art history, I became fascinated with the human capacity for creativity, process, communication and meaning-making. All of which are explored in the counseling space as well. Alongside my interest in art, I was deeply invested in yoga, meditation and various wellness modalities. My interest has, and still lies in our capacity for resilience, and our ability to better ourselves, and help guide others to follow suit. Most recently, working with vulnerable indigenous communities, I have learned how to centre mindfulness into everyday practice and witness the power of community gathering together to integrate trauma and thrive. Further, completing my practicum at Windhorse Community Centre as a basic attendant, I have continued to learn about the profundity of communal care and the humility in serving a vulnerable population experiencing high acuity, extreme states of mind. My background in detailed academic research, work with high-risk populations and studies in mindfulness practices, combined with my experience in the fast-paced work environment of startups, have provided me with a variety of transferable skills. I learn fast, and I stay regulated. I am curious, compassionate, adaptable and ready to get my hands dirty. Innovative Therapist Intern offering strength-based approach to supporting client healing.
