Juno Award nominee Alvin Cornista is a freelance saxophonist, composer, director, engineer and educator with over 25 years of experience in professional music. He possesses specific proficiency in jazz and its sub-genres, as well as world music and commercial music. With expertise in the recording studio, live shows and implementation of both analog and digital technologies, this candidate is well versed in all aspects of professional music and it's components. Recently relocating to Toronto, Alvin has an extensive history of performances in renowned festivals worldwide and prolific expertise in the music creation process across many genres and mediums. His skill set combines multidisciplinary approaches and a collaborative methodology, which have earned him multiple awards and distinctions. He continually conducts research to integrate technology and current trends into his practices, drawing from both music's rich history and limitless future. In terms of pedagogy, Alvin has always adopted a generous approach in being a steward and mentor whether it be at the institutional level or otherwise. Beyond the art form, Alvin has cultivated a strong sense of social responsibility, global awareness, and ethical values.
