Nursing Skills

Provides detailed discharge instructions on follow-up care, medication, activity restrictions, and when to seek help. Guides patients on lifestyle changes to aid recovery and prevent issues.
  • Medication Administration - Safely administers medications using evidence-based resources such as Fraser Health policies and PDTM to safely administer medications (intravenous, intramuscular, subcutaneous, oral, transdermal, nasal, and eye). Manages primary and secondary infusions. Performs removal of saline locks. Conducts glucometer testing and administers insulin.
  • Wound Care - Performs wound packing and simple dressing changes. Provides drain care and removal. Educate patients on caring for incisions and spotting infection signs.
  • Communication & Collaboration - Utilizes therapeutic communication, motivational interviewing, patient-centered and trauma-informed care. Recognizes and reports deteriorating client status using SBAR. Coordinates with the interdisciplinary team and makes referrals as needed. Seeks guidance and feedback for continuous improvement. Applies holistic, patient-centered care and health promotion.
  • Nutrition and Elimination - Inserts, manages, and removes indwelling Foley catheters and intermittent catheters. Implements interventions in bowel protocols. Monitors intake and output for fluid balance. Cares for patients with ostomies and NG tubes.
  • Documentation - Accurately documents all care, assessments, interventions, and patient education in Meditech. Ensures documentation is comprehensive and compliant with hospital policies and standards.
